100% first-rate vintage soul/funk.
After more than 10 years, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings have become a real point-of-reference within the soul/funk scene. With her vintage soul and explosive funk, Sharon Jones has more than earned her nickname as ‘the female James Brown’. What's more: calling her ‘the female Charles Bradley’, would be entirely justified.
She once began her singing career in the local church choir in Georgia. Since she entered into alliance with the famous Dap-Kings – who played on Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back To Black’ - she's had the world at her feet. She's worked together with the late Lou Reed (during his ‘Berlin’ show) and Rufus Wainwright and appeared at prestigious festivals like Coachella (us), Roskilde (d), Rock Werchter and North Sea Jazz (nl).
She has now released 5 impressive albums already on the well-reputed Daptone Records label. The start of the new year will see the release of the brand new ‘Give The People What They Want’. In other words: 100% vintage funk and soul!
