Seun Kuti, Fela's youngest son, with his father's legendary AFROBEAT band: Egypt 80!. In full his name is of course Seun Ransome Anikulapo Kuti and, more than other offspring of this exceptional family, Seun sounds like the worthy successor to the much talked-about Nigerian frontman. Fela Kuti was an intriguing politian, musician and clan leader. His trademark was incredibly long, but especially exceptionally hypnotic, Afrobeat masterpieces and sledgehammer blows. Just think of the 'International TT', 'Sorrow Tears And Blood'... Son Seun doesn't let down the side: with the solid chest bared, of course , he announces frank slogans like 'Don't Give That Shit To Me' on his sweltering debut CD 'Many Things' (here via Bang!) How tasty it sounds (while the messages eagerly nestle in your head). This is the power of a real, solid, inevitable Afrobeat: feel free to let yourself go (and come back again when it's done, if you still can). AfroBeat @ AB!
Support act (at 7:30 pm!) will be the superb N'Faly Kouyate with his kora & orchestra! N'faly Kouyaté comes from Guinea and has his homebase in Brussels. But from here he's conquering the whole wide world, once as member of the groundbreaking Afro-Celt Sound System, or occasionally with the Galician Ialma, from then on more and more under his own name with his Dunyakan project. Now they've produced the sparkling 'Tunya' CD (out on Galileo Music Communication).
