The very first jazz album was released 100 years ago: The Original Dixieland Jass Band with ‘Livery Stable Blues’. That’s why AB will be paying extra attention to jazz for a year. From contemporary classics to musical troublemakers who are inspired by jazz, to the latest incredibly headstrong jazz generation from local soil.

‘I Go Back Home – a story about hoping and dreaming’ tells of the improbable coupling of jazz legend ‘Little’ Jimmy Scott – recognizable by his unique falsetto – and disillusioned German producer/composer Ralf Kemper. Jimmy Scott, friend of Billie Holiday & Charlie Parker and one of the last musicians of the Golden Age of Jazz, was described as 'perhaps the most unjustly ignored American singer of the 20th century' by the New York Times. Lou Reed is to be heard on one of his albums and David Lynch let him shine with the song ‘Sycamore Trees’ in his ‘Twin Peaks’.

 After a personal loss, Ralf Kemper became obsessed by the lack of attention for his hero Jimmy Scott. He collected the world’s greatest jazz musicians to realise his dream and, in doing so, he motivated Jimmy Scott to record an album again himself. This documentary is all about the entire process and gives an intimate look at how this unique collaboration came about.
