Dan Auerbach protégé comes up with the best classic R&B album of the year
ROBERT FINLEY is a fierce soul and blues veteran who, with his second CD 'Goin' Platinum', was also the first release on Dan - Black Keys – Auerbach’s new label: Easy Eye Sound.
That is even more remarkable because this American from Bernice Louisiana is already more than sixty years old, his eyesight is going, and he schooled himself musically 'by ear'.
The fervent guitarist and singer can take on every musical register, soothing one moment, more robust the next, and there’s that falsetto.
No wonder Auerbach wanted to write with him and produce the album, also mentioning: 'He’s a blues guitar player, but when he puts his guitar down, you could set him in front of an orchestra and he would sing just as good as Ray Charles on the first take.'
ILA
After years of playing in a band, ILA (nom de plume of this Limburger with Turkish roots, Ilayda Cicek) decided that it was time to write and release her own music. That resulted in the self-titled debut EP 'ILA' that is just out. Four gems of songs that are brimming with melancholy and, at times, hesitate between hope and despair. Expect an idiosyncratic artist, blessed with a voice in which the wallowing is warm.
