Americana country folk, gospel, jazz, blues, roots rock!
Already visited in 2010 with the debut of Carolina Chocolate Drops (btw, see too: Leyla McCalla recently in a full club.)
Now finally returning with the CD 'Tomorrow Is My Turn' on the Nonesuch label (here via Warner). It was produced by T Bone Burnett and Rhiannon Giddens has clearly done a good job with her homework for it.
Just drop by her website and see how extensively she refers to Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Odetta, Nina Simone, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Joan Baez... But also Geeshie Wiley, L.V. Thomas, Sheila Kay Adams, Florence Quivar, Libba Cotton, Jean Ritchie... The Staple Singers!
Americana country-folk roots that goes back as far as 78 rpm records from around 1930, it’s hard to find more authentic field work than that; unless at this evening in the ABClub!?
