In 2007, AB launched a timeless series: ◄◄ REWIND. Central to this series are Belgian artists who perform ‘their classic’ in its entirety. Call it a milestone in their career, or more so: a key album in Belgian pop music. These are often – but not always – albums that are carved into collective memory. Call them points of reference in the Belgian music landscape. Each ‘pièce de résistance’ is performed in its entirety. Entirely? That’s right, in the exact order that the artist wanted (or still wants) to tell their tale.

With ◄◄ REWIND, AB also contributes to the activation of Belgian musical heritage. Already passed in revue: ‘The Ideal Crash’ (dEUS), ‘The Kids’ (The Kids), ‘Op Zoek Naar Romantiek’ (Guido Belcanto), ‘Jonge Helden’ (Arbeid Adelt!), ‘Gorky’ (Gorki), ‘1981-1984’ (The Neon Judgement), ‘Royalty In Exile’ (The Scabs), ‘Nooit Meer Drinken’ (Raymond Van Het Groenewoud), ‘De Mens’ (De Mens), ‘The Ship’ (Luc Van Acker), ‘Un Ball Dans La Tête’ (De Puta Madre), ‘Hè Hè’ (Jan De Wilde), ‘Laïs’ (Laïs), ‘Mud Stories’ (An Pierlé) and ‘Struggle for Pleasure’ (Wim Mertens).

GIRLS IN HAWAII play ‘From Here To There’ (2003)

‘From Here To There’ was the sprightly and exciting debut by Girls in Hawaii that saw the light of day exactly two decades ago. The album caused an instant upheaval in Belgian pop music: suddenly a Walloon act gained a foothold in Flanders. The album sold as many as 60,000 copies and was also released in France, Spain, Italy, Germany, US and Japan. What’s more, just a few months after its release, they sold out the Main Hall at AB too, in a true Walloon/Brussels triple bill with Ghinzu and Sharko. That same year they also appeared on the bill at Rock Werchter, which was only 20% Belgian in 2004.

During their ◄◄ REWIND concert, GIH will recreate the live set-up of their early years with the now iconic TVs and videos created by Olivier Cornil, designer of the cover for ‘From Here To There’. During the encores, GIH will also play an extensive 'best of' with a focus on the first albums and... 1 or 2 new tracks!

(This concert is intrinsically connected to the memory of Girls in Hawaii manager Pierre Van Braekel, whose personality and presence are still missed every day. At his suggestion, we forged plans together for the realisation of this ◄◄ REWIND concert back in 2022.)
