Pretty mysterious name ? What do you think of 'Elephants... Teeth Sinking Into Heart'? That's what her latest, second CD, is called (via Warner). It's a double CD, on which this American has allowed all aspects of her psyche and inspiration to be copiously addressed. Hopefully you've already been able to hear these singles and winners somewhere: 'Elephants', 'Sidedish Friend', 'Don't', 'Accident', 'Faster', 'Sunday Afternoon'... For it, Rachael Yamagata hid herself away in Woodstock for months and came back (from her cellar?) with at least 160 songs that sound fragile one moment, rawer the next. Producer this time was chiefly Mike Mogis (see also: Bright Eyes and Rilo Kiley). Together they provide a moving and exciting anthology (while Ray Lamontagne also takes part in a duet). This idiosyncratic singer-guitarist-pianist also happens to have quite a following in our country. You'd better hurry to the ABClub, before she does the Blue Note in Tokyo and Carnegie Hall in New York!
