Cooking swing, country, folk, blues, jazz mélange
Pokey LaFarge, your swinging, shaking, country-folk rage! Here this summer with a new 'full CD/LP' (via V2) and a 'monumental record deal' with Jack White's Third Man Records ('dedicated to bringing the 'tangible aesthetic' back to your music collection')!
The new CD is simply titled 'Pokey LaFarge', but in his extensive band you will still find the impressive 'South City Three' with whom he also delivered that unbelievable business card: previous CD 'Middle Of Everywhere' with single 'Chitlin Cookin' Time In Cheatham County'.
Even more impressive: Pokey & Co made their first visit to the ABClub at the time, in March 2012, and turned the (hen) house on its head in no time. The live reputation was already established for good here (in the wake of The Netherlands, in particular, see: the recent 'Live in Holland' CD.)
All the way from St. Louis Missouri USA with his 'American roots, ragtime, jug band, early jazz, country blues, western swing & sun blessed riverboat style': Pokey lalalaaa LaFarge!
Pokey now brings along support-act Luke Winslow-King, bearing his new CD 'The Coming Tide' (out on Bloodshot Records.) Plus his guitar, of course, as: 'Luke Winslow-King (born March 12th 1983) is a guitarist, singer, composer, and lyricist known for his slide guitar work, and interest in pre-war blues and traditional jazz. Winslow-King’s work consists of an eclectic mix, taking in delta-folk music, classical composition, ragtime, and rock and roll; juxtaposing original songs with those from a bygone era... offers an original sound that is both rustic and elegant. He delivers energetic and dynamic performances, with his burgundy voice and versatile guitar playing... originally from Cadillac, Michigan, moved to New Orleans by chance in 2001... sharing the stage with icons such as Taj Mahal, John Anderson, Buckwheat Zydeco, Jack White, Pokey LaFarge, Robert Earl Keen, Tower of Power,... and was named ‘Writer of the Week’ by American Songwriter Magazine.'
