Pantera and Down Frontman solo and very much in your face!
In the category ‘most legendary metal frontman’ the line-up is headed by this fellow: Philip H. Anselmo! He was the man who provided the unique groove-metal riffs (Walk! Domination! Mouth For War!...) of the tragically deceased Dimebag Darrell with vocals, in Pantera, and formed supergroup Down (with members of Crowbar, Corrosion Of Conformity and Eyehategod).
Anselmo is currently touring solo with backing band The Illegals, the band he last year released ‘Walk Through Exits Only’ with (on his very own Housecore Records label). His characteristic singing style – or spitting of the soul into a microphone – in combination with unconventional sledgehammer-riffs reminds one of Pantera’s ‘The Great Southern Trendkill’ from ’96.
Just like that other legendary frontman and contemporary: Mike Patton (Faith No More), Anselmo is continually exploring ways of expressing himself and channelling his emotions into songs, without lapsing into repeat. One of the greats, up close and very personal in AB Club!
Toxic Shock
Gorgeous old school trash metal/hardcore from Antwerp! A few years ago Toxic Shock pulled the bandana, frayed denim shorts and Gibson Flying V out from under the pile of old junk and has been hammering out metal in the style of D.R.I, Cro-Mags, Municipal Waste and Suicidal Tendencies ever since. What a fine Monday's moshing!
