Patrick Wolf at his most intimate. Namely acoustic.
“One of Britain's most underrated pop stars.” (The Guardian)
We can still simply address Patrick Denis Apps as Patrick Wolf. This idiosyncratic singer songwriter from London still considers romance to be important. What's more, he packages it particularly impressively in stunning songs where ukulele, piano, violin and electronica play the main roles.
Wolf’s debut ‘Lycanthropy’ was released in ’03 and it immediately provided him with a heap of guests appearances as violin player, for the likes of Arcade Fire and CocoRosie. Marianne Faithfull could even be heard on his third one, ‘The Magic Position’ (from ’07), a concept album about love. His latest album ‘Lupercalia’ was released last year and instantly scored an 8/10 from NME and a solid ****-review in The Guardian .
Later this year, Patrick Wolf will be heading out on the road again. To present his now impressive oeuvre in its most intimate form, namely acoustic. So that's rather unique. Glad to have the man visiting AB again after his stops in ’04 and ’05 (in the company of CocoRosie and Efterklang).
We'll be warming up the evening with English cellist Abi Wade. Musical references are most definitely Arthur Russell, Joanna Newsom and Kate Bush. The Great Escape Festival on the subject: "Beautiful music characterised by stripped back instrumentation, compelling harmonies and haunting voice brings to mind artist such as Regina Spector.” Her latest EP was released via Love Thy Neighbour Records, the label founded by Daniel Copeman from Esben & the Witch.
