Calexico connected TexMex mambo etc à gogo!
Joey-Calexico-Burns: 'Sergio Mendoza y la Orkesta continue to surprise me both in the studio and on-stage live. Mambo Mexicano is the tip of the iceberg of great things to come.'
Sergio Mendoza (not to be confused with Sérgio Mendes) is even impressive enough to go on tour with Calexico sometimes, for example: to the AB in April 2015 (aside the energetic Amparo Sanchez, of course.)
But, in his tightly playing Orkesta, Sergio prefers: 'Texmex mambo salted with handfuls of cumbia, merengue and ranchero with a strong Calexico connection.' Occasionally throwing in something a little more spicy: 'psychedelic cumbia, rumba, jazz, indie rock and references to idol Perez Prado.'
