Subtle steamroller of refined progressive metal!
With jazz, blues, folk, kraut- and prog-rock injected metal from Stockholm! Over the years, Opeth’s characteristic death-rattle drenched death metal has made way for a more eclectic, refined style that is further explored on new issue ‘Pale Communion’ (out on Roadrunner as of 25 Aug ’14). Just like previous album ‘Heritage’, the grunts have been exchanged for the velvety vocals of figurehead Mikael Åkerfeldt and the refined production is the again the hands of Steven ‘Porcupine Tree’ Wilson.
The musical evolution that Opeth has displayed since debut ‘Orchid’ in ‘95 makes them one of the most intriguing, innovative bands in the metal crucible. They'll be dropping by Dessel first for an intimate get together with the likes of Black Sabbath, Slayer and Mastodon and then visit a crammed AB for the third time to make it surge and shatter under a subtle steamroller of refined progressive metal.
