Oi Va Voi, finally in the box! After 2 impassioned ABClubs now and this year rightfully at Couleur Café! This collective from London just gets better and better at what they do best: mixing music and bringing pleasure. Following Anna Phoebe as exuberant violinist, there is now Bridgette Amofah as black voice and new addition.
The third CD is also out now (via V2): 'Travelling The Face Of The Globe'. Agenda BDW says of it: 'Take some matinee klezmer music in the Balkan tradition, add a few folk accents and a hint of Jamaican sun with the power of a brass section, and infuse all that with a broth of rather urban pop, tinged with hip-hop and beatbox, all on a bed of soft electronica.' Well that should be quite something! Or also MAD Le Soir: 'a festive CD, open and exciting'.
In the fertile tradition of the likes of Asian Dub Foundation and Transglobal Underground, this is yet another crossover prize-winner! Oi Va Voi!
Support act will be Amatorski. Brilliant this summer during the 11 July Gulden Ontsporing in Brussels. We take up the thread of our recruiting rhetoric at the time: 'A foreign, beautiful, song universe', is how Cutting Edge described their music, 'it's clear: the songs are what ask for your attention. Each and every one of them is worth it too. Space, sparsity and melancholy invariably form the building blocks'. This year Amatorski also attained third place in the category 'alternative music’ in Canvas competition Labo De Lux. The foursome deserves their position amongst the likes of Portishead and Eleni Mandell. On their demo we can already hear a great deal of sophisticated atmosphere, including a super collaboration with The Bony King Of Nowhere and a refreshing Missy Elliott cover! You'd better not miss Amatorski on this evening!
