Top collaboration between Neneh Cherry, Four Tet and Robyn.
"One of the albums you gotta hear in 2014"
(Spin)
We don't really have to introduce Neneh Cherry any more. But let's just refresh your memory. This Swedish cherry made an explosive debut in '89: her debut 'Raw Like Sushi' contained a collection of instant worldwide hits: 'Buffalo Stance', 'Manchild' and 'Inna City Mama'. Later followed by 'I've Got You Under My Skin' (the Cole Porter version) and, of course, '7 Seconds' (with Youssou N'Dour).
After an extended silence, in '12 she reappeared with the album 'The Cherry Thing'. A surprising collaboration with the free jazz association The Thing on which she re-worked songs by The Stooges, MF Doom and Suicide. Then, Band name The Thing hails from a '66 track by none less than jazz trumpet-player Don Cherry, father of... indeed... Neneh Cherry.
Anno '14, Neneh Cherry makes things even more exciting by taking the plunge with electronica god Four Tet (Kieran Hebden). 'Blank Project' will be released in the course of February and is her first solo-album since '96. Radiohead are rabid fans of the electronica band RocketNumberNine that she worked with for the recordings. Compatriot Robyn worked on the album too. Forerunner 'Blank Project' certainly promises good things. Artists who re-invent themselves: that's the way we like it!
Tip: Be quick! Neneh Cherry has opted for a limited European tour in small, intimate clubs and the AB fits that bill, of course!
We mainly know Iceland's Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir (Kria Brekkan's real name) from Múm, but she has also played with the likes of Slowblow, Mice Parade and Animal Collective. Ryan Erskine is a Californian desert boy who has been making music for his entire life and, every now and then, he plays in a film.
The two met in the spring of 2013 in the Joshua Tree National Park, they started making music together and never stopped.
They've played now many ‘Love Bombs’ evenings in Reykjavik, with much success, and are now enthused to be taking a short tour of Europe for the first time, to bombard the Old Continent with their music too.
Expect a set whereby Erskine’s Americana-influences fuse with Brekkan's typical Scandinavian ‘touch’ to bring us a unique mix that holds your attention for the entire show.
