neeka is still best written with a lowercase n at the front. But, in the meantime, this sensitive singer is now on to her fifth CD: 'deeper well' - out on Rough Trade via Pias.
With a voice that timelessly nestles itself between greats like Joni Mitchell, Carole King and other Suzanne Vega's, always full of enthusiasm (on the keyboard too), and with an extremely refined own repertoire.
neeka is the artistic alias of Ilse Goovaerts, who has been a sure bet for semi-fragile beauty - like recent single and radio-hit 'Rambler' - since the end of last century and at least 10 or so visits to AB.
In the past, she's also been extensively active solo, or very beautifully and successfully together with the likes of Stef Kamil Carlens and Tom Robinson. Now, for 'deeper well', she's working closely with Das Pop, Float Fall, Geppetto & The Whales, and of course Monsieur -Triggerfinger- Paul.
neeka, together with a group of predominantly new names. The result is new material that grabs the attention with its enthusiasm, freshness and accessibility. But which is always highly personal at the same time, a little recalcitrant sounding even.
'Deeper well' would then seem to be synonym for 'still waters run deep…'
