Solo Project of Dirty Projectors bassist.
"Nat Baldwin’s upright bass is Joanna Newsom’s harp, Andrew Bird’s violin - a partner so indispensable, it’s a personal trait." (The Boston Phoenix)
"His musical imagination is expansive, while his lack of pretence is admirable" (Pitchfork)
Nat Baldwin is nothing less than bassist in impressive and innovative Brooklyn band Dirty Projectors and an old disciple of free jazz legend Antony Braxton. Baldwin didn't only work on the Dirty Projectors and Björk collaboration (read: rock opera) ‘Mount Wittenberg Orca’ over the past year, he also released a 4th album under his own name in the meantime. ‘People Changes’ sounds – regardless of his quoted background – exceptionally intimate. The right stuff for Dirty Projectors fans who just can't do without their band live and want to explore further.
Dirty Projectors-bassist Nat Baldwin's concert will be a real double bill. As Benoît Pioulard will be completing the programme that evening. Benoît Pioulard is the nom de plume of American singer/guitarist/pianist Thomas Meluch. His most recent albums - ‘Precis’, ‘Temper’ and ‘Lasted’ - were released via prestigious American label Kranky and had their virtues extolled by the (underground) press. The Milk Factory wrote: “His albums are infinite treasure troves.” and Pitchfork praised: "Pioulard's songwriting has never been stronger.” and sent the album off with a high score of 7.9. But don't expect classic songwritership, Meluch interlaces his songs with field recordings that make the result even more surprising and dreamy.
