Warp-act that nestles between Gravenhurst and Grizzly Bear.
Listen to the track ‘Higher Palms’ and you'll immediately be sold. Deliciously hypnotic melodies with harmonious echoes of the likes of Spirtualized and The Jesus and Mary Chain grab all the attention. The track hails from debut ‘In Ghostlike Fading’ that is soon to be released via the well-reputed Warp Records and it can best be associated musically with Warp signings like Gravenhurst and Grizzly Bear than with idiosyncratic electronica acts likes Autechre or Aphex Twin. Singer Frederick Coldwell cites both sixties cult folkie Fred Neil, electronica musician Bernhard Fleischmann as well as ‘On The Beach’ by Neil Young as big influences.
Trivia I: the band name was taken from the documentary of the same name by Werner Herzog, about his best friend Klaus Kinski.
Trivia II: ‘In Ghostlike Fading’ was partly recorded in the studio of Matt Boynton who we know from the likes of Gang Gang Dance, MGMT and Beirut.
Support-act will be Flying Horseman from Antwerp. Flying Horseman is, as ever, the band encompassing Bert Dockx that serves threatening post-folk and moody blues. Their second album ‘Twist’ will be released in April with none other than Koen Gisen behind the dials (check out his production work for the likes of The Bony King Of Nowhere, Kiss The Anus Of A Black Cat and, soon, Tommigun). References like Joy Division, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Bill Callahan, Talk Talk and The Velvet Underground form a fine frame of reference. You'll still find the Maieu sisters in the backing band, you know, those adorable frontwomen from Blackie & the Oohoos.
