An exception: no reservation fees charged for musicians day tickets.
Bands and musicians have had to wait a while, but it's back: Poppunt's Musicians Day! Be sure to mark Saturday 23 November in fifty shades of fluo in your diary, because that's when the Brussels' AB is again the place to be for everyone who makes, or loves music. We looked back over ten fantastic editions and found that it could be a little different this year…
Different, you say? Yup, the code word for this edition will be ‘inspiration’, with the concert hall of AB as epicentre. No masterclasses on stage any more, but rather sessions, readings and cases. No Playground in the Main Hall, but rather YOU, our fantastic audience. We'll be serving you topics in which various experts, musicians and other experienced folk will bombard you with know-how, insights and of course the requisite dashes of music (duh). That will no longer take place in 1-hour sessions, given by one speaker, but rather via a programme consisting of only large ‘cases’ in which various approaches will be addressed. Do we have your attention…?
As far as speakers are concerned, you can expect a number of well-reputed international names, a heap of established homegrown names and a number of sizeable surprises. They take on cases like ‘the importance of a signature sound’, ‘the musical identity of an artist’, ‘the album as statement’, ‘the expansion of the band’,... . In so doing, Muzikantendag wants to evolve from teaching to become a source of inspiration, and send the visitor home with a head full of ideas, desire, more know-how, stories, etc. After all, those who want to follow lessons can find an ample offering in local music centres and schools these days. With Muzikantendag we want to do that little bit more and become an extensive platform for musical, creative and business inspiration and the exchange of knowledge, whereby we touch upon all facets the musician will encounter… Without ambition, one starts nothing, no?
That doesn't mean that we throw away everything from the past. The ever popular demo feedback is a stayer of course. We think that's quite logical, as what is more informative for a musician than receiving tips and feedback from professionals in the sector?
Feedback on your tracks? Check! Feedback on your bio? Yes! Feedback on your press releases? That too! We again provide a small army of music professionals with whom you can enter into a very personal conversation. Tip: keep an eye on the website to make a reservation for your tête-à-tête.
In the more intimate setting of the AB Club we will provide smaller sessions with more hands-on info from the musicians themselves. We'll serve various genres there: from (hard) rock to pop to funk and soul. Don't only look forward to unbelievable insights, but also to a serious serving of music. All that in the best possible acoustic circumstances. High five!
If all that isn't enough, then you can seek advice from our pop advisers in Huis 23 for the business side of your music journey. You can get tips on building your rehearsal space, filling in and understanding Sabam forms, promotional tips, etc. Take the stairs up to our Tower, which will be transformed into a musical production space for the occasion. Here you can become acquainted with the latest software used for recording, arrangements and production. This is certainly an invitation to come spin the dials yourself.
You'd best keep an eye on www.muzikantendag.be over the coming months. You'll soon see the first names and practical details appear there, but be sure to come take a look now too, as we're already inching into our role as inspiration source. What's more, we'd be very much pleased if you'd like to participate. Spotted an awfully inspiring quote, clip, image? Share on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, making mention of #MZD13, and maybe it might end up on the site.
Otherwise, see you on 23 November, at the eleventh edition of Muzikantendag!
