Monster Magnet plays their cult classic in its entirrety.
For years, Josh Homme has been proving that stoner rock is for men with cojones, on and off stage. But if there's one guy who can measure up to the tall redhead from Kyuss and Quotsa then it's Dave Wyndorf, the singer/guitarist from Monster Magnet. We'll leave it to your discretion at what level that comparison can be made, there's a choice between sex, drugs and rock&roll. But one thing is for sure: both gents were there in the late 80's, at the birth of stoner rock. Though Monster Magnet coloured further outside the lines, with musical references in the direction of space rock, psychedelica and seventies hard rock. They burst into collective memory in ’92 with the instant classic ‘Spine of God’, an album that immediately stood out due to Wyndorf's hilarious lyrics and solid songs with – there they are again – gigantic cojones. Including that clever cover of ‘Sin’s a Good Man’s Brother’ by Grand Funk Railroad.
Lines like “Peace is what you get from the Chemical King” from the title track and ‘Took the world from behind’ from their first single ‘Medecine’ are clear: the guys from Monster Magnet have gotten around. That's probably why Wyndorf is the only remaining original band member from the wild ‘Spine of God’ years. That the current line-up rocks arse was something that could already be heard last year at TRIX, in Antwerp, where their biggest commercial success ‘Dopes to Infinity’ passed in revue. “Despite the exuberant shouting along to ‘I’m never gonna work, another day in my life’, there'll still have been a lot of people who turned up at their job the next day with headaches and squinty eyes.” wrote Digg.be about this concert. Don't worry, we've made sure that the concert in AB is on a Friday.
On the menu: all the songs from ‘Spine of God’ in their entirety, topped off by the hits from the following albums. Give me a ‘SPACE LORD MOTHER MOTHER’ hell yeah!
My Sleeping Karma - German-made instrumental, psychedelic stoner - will be getting this concert-evening started. Their fourth album ‘Soma’, out in late September ’12 on Napalm records, is bursting with melodic compositions, alternated with percussion of the better quality. "The perfect movie soundtrack to everybody’s own inner journey. Just be warned, you may never want to leave again”, they wrote on their website. Can't wait to see if this musical hypnotism also works live.
