8:00 pm Tommigun
Tommigun is the new project of Thomas Devos (Rumplestitchkin), Joeri Cnapelinckx (Kawada) and singer Kaat Arnaert. Musical friends are the likes of The Black Heart Procession and Scout Niblett... and that is no accident. Tommigun makes music that sometimes sounds desolate but at the same time delicately beautiful and at other times raw but reserved. Or as they say themselves: ‘heartbreakhangover tunes, explosive bursts of anger’. The recordings for their first album ‘Come Watch Me Disappear’ took place in San Diego with musicians from the Californian indie-rock scene and with Pall Jenkins (Black Heart Procession) as producer. This spring they toured Europe as the perfect warm-up to Daniel Johnston.
9:00 pm Mintzkov
The Mintzkov concert in the AB Box is a more than worthy closer to a successful Mintzkov year. First there was was the release of their excellent and considerably acclaimed third album 'Rising Sun, Setting Sun'. Humo readily gave it a ****-review. Their singles ‘Opening Fire’ and recently ‘Author of the Play’ were played considerably on the radio. ‘De Afrekening’-voters were very favourable of them and catapulted them into the upper regions. Not only the summer concert-season is well filled (with Dour and Pukkelpop as highlights) but also the end of year season. So it is that the band will be touring in through France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria in autumn. Final stop is AB... and we're not in the least bit sad about that.
