Brilliant experimental harpist brings us contemporary meditative ambient
Mary Lattimore, an LA resident and classically schooled musician, skillfully manages to strip the harp of its âold-fashionedâ image by means of her experimental approach and the use of a few effect pedals. Her complex and meditative ambient reminds one of the better work of Harold Budd or Pauline Oliveros.
Lattimore has released her work on the likes of Ghostly Intl., Thrill Jockey and Three Lobed Recordings and has already worked with Thurston Moore, Steve Gunn, Meg Baird, Sharon Van Etten, Jarvis Cocker, Arcade Fire and Kurt Vile.
A remix album of her 2018 release 'Hundreds of Days' was issued earlier this year, with tracks reworked by Jónsi, Alex Somers and Julianna Barwick, amongst others.

While Lattimore is willing to put her instrument through some effects, she never subdues its essential character. Its inherent lightness gives records that bear her name a yielding qualityâ - The WireâWhat makes Hundreds of Days so special, though, is how often it hits ambient musicâs sweetest spotâa place where the world slows down and the performerâs free-floating noise makes you appreciate everything around it.â - Pitchfork
