Two times Ivory Coast, two phenomenal talents, each with a new CD!
Dobet Gnahore is that sumptuous songstress who charms crowds all over the world but who found a home here in Belgium with the ever alert Contre Jour label (see also Habib Koite and Afel Bocoum). Dobet won BBC 3’s 'best world newcomer award' in 2006 and now there’s a Grammy nomination too, for 'Pearls' (that Sade cover by India.Arie and Dobet Gnahoré!) The third CD 'Djekpa La You' is now complete, again with that unique mix of languages, styles and stimuli... Fans of ziglibiti, bikutsi, highlife, rumba... Here is your bewitching show beast!
Manou Gallo is that unrivalled singer-bassist who already once opened in the AB for Joan Armatrading, who has also already tagged along with Zap Mama, and from whom the new, subtly brilliant CD 'Lowlin' is now finally finished (from Igloo Mondo, via Zig Zag World). Recorded in Abidjan, Brussels, Copenhagen and Budapest, with keywords like: sensitive, feminine, creative. At the Mama Awards (MTV Africa) she was the 'best performing artist 2009' and is always up for an intense jam session – with Wyclef Jean on a large stage, or with an illustrious stranger in café Bonnefooi... Manou Gallo is a musical walhalla!
Dobet (pronounced Dobey) will perform first, Manou (pronounce Manoo) second.
