Fresh 'Phados' from a 'Troubadour': cd launch
Lula Pena is an enigmatic Portuguese performer. She does her own vocals, guitar and percussion, sometimes accompanied by an extra multi-instrumentalist or saxophonist.
So, in essence, this is the better, noble and intriguing solo work and she already always silently emanated that in De Roma or Flagey. 'Quasi shamanistic’, we have also read.
Now there’s this CD launch in the ABClub: 'Archivo Pittoresco', a third CD released here at the end of January on the (ever alert) Crammed-label. That is then ‘only’ seven years after her second release 'Troubadour', and that CD was only about twelve years later than debut 'Phados' from '98.
Oh, and note the spelling of the latter too: of course you hear fado here, but just as easily Portuguese folk, French chanson, Cape Verde morna, Brasilian bossa nova...
