Experimental x hyper-commercial
L'Rain is the musical project of American multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer and curator Taja Cheek. A mix of the experimental and the hyper-commercial makes her sound extremely fascinating. As always, Cheek fills her songs with an array of instruments, including guitar, bass, synths, keyboards, percussion, various effect pedals and plug-ins.
Her self-titled debut was included in the ‘best of’ year-end charts of publications like Pitchfork and Bandcamp Daily. Her second album, Fatigue, even made it into Pitchfork's ‘Best New Music’ overview.
She’ll present her third album I Killed Your Dog in the AB Club. The album builds on the previous themes of grief & identity and explores what it means to hurt those you love the most. "I imagine a world of contradictions, as always", Cheek explains. "Sensual, maybe even sexy, but also scary and strange." I Killed Your Dog was written in the middle of a period of heartache and has been described as an ‘anti-break-up’ album.
