Deliciously thrilling experimental noise-rock.
“There are very few bands around at the moment that possess the kind of wit, imagination and guts to make sure that every time they release a record it sounds nothing like their last. Thank God, then, for Liars.”
(NME)
No more beautiful chaos imaginable than that of band Liars, from New York. Their debut 'They Threw Us All In A Trench And Stuck A Monument On Top' was bursting with post-punk groove, avant noise, bizarre pop and minimal funk. Their shows laid the foundation for the renewed punk-funk revival led by LCD Soundsystem. But Liars wanted to shed themselves of their 'post-punk Brooklyn art-dance' label and radically changed direction.
Their latest album ‘Sisterworld’ (from ’10) made it into the end-of-year charts internationally and had a quite uncompromising sound. What's more, they have fans all over and in the highest echelons too. Beck invited them to his famous 'Record Club', where they covered ‘Kick’ by INXS together. As curator, Portishead also recently invited them to last year's ATP’s ‘Ill Be Your Mirror’.
Then, suddenly, Liars are out on tour again. Without prior announcement. Hit and run. As always. “Our idol has agreed to produce this next Liars record” was to be read on www.liarsliarsliars.com. There's also a series of reports - via youtube clips - with deliciously remarkable sounds. Or 'Six – May 9’, a Facebook post that presumably refers to the release date of their latest newcomer. Liars? You gotta love them.
Support-act will be new electronica child-prodigy Pomrad, from Antwerp. Pomrad conceals Antwerp's Adriaan Van de Velde, who is about to release his first EP‘Vlotjes’. According to De Standaard, everyone who hears this EP will be “amazed at Pomrad’s musical maturity, his fantastic drive to experiment and his un-Flemish feeling for black grooves.” Add to that the comparison with Rustie and a dash of Flying Lotus and you should be fully triggered. Lefto, did you have something more to say? “Yep, Can I already refer to him as our Hudson Mohawke?” @ Lefto: please do!
