Where's the summer at? In the meantime, here's a little sunny mestizo! A double-bill with two of the most lively Spanish folk-rock acts!
First La Troba Kung-Fu. Spring 2007: they were first an immense revelation in the ABClub, with their debut 'Clavell Morenet'. We take up the thread: 'Immensely exciting project from singer-accordionist Joan Garriga - ex Dusminguet and so, together with Ojos De Brujo, Amparanoia and Macaco, responsible for the best Spanish mestizo music. An absolutely irresistible mix of cumbia, rumba, vallenato, reggae, salsa, raï... the whole world in their hands and at your feet! Radio 1 already spontaneously chose the songs Mirame and Calor, Calor as favourites. Hey chico, check this out!' After their visits here to the likes of the Esperanzah Festival, we can only whole heartedly agree!
Second act will be, not forgetting 'Bonito': Jarabe de Palo, that motley crew around Pau Donés. Now with a new collection of reinterpretations and the CD is then also called 'Orquesta Reciclando'. For their last visit to the AB, De Standaard wrote: 'Spanish super-group is homesick for the seventies… like a funky incarnation of Santana... the audience was mad about them ... live it was a scrumptiously swinging, varied flight… bubbling rumba-rhythm ... this band's secret weapon: it uses all sorts of garnishes from rock (especially bluesy intro's and riffs), from salsa and from hip-hop, but builds the songs upon a Spanish feeling.'
A neo-olé feeling!?
