La Roux, or rather songstress Elly Jackson backed by producer Ben Langmaid, has apparently effortlessly blown new life into the sound of 80’s electro-pop and is currently making it big world-wide. Of course, we already know the superb singles ‘Bulletproof’, ‘In For The Kill’ (check out that Skream remix!) and ‘Quicksand’. They're all from the untitled debut that has also been camping in all sorts of hit-lists for weeks here too. La Roux' concert at Pukkelpop (the name is a bastardization of the French term ‘La Rousse’, meaning redhead) was spot on and so she'll be coming to cheer her many fans again in February in the AB.
Belgian electro duo The Brown Acid shot out of the starting blocks two years ago, with a special ‘teaser’ concert in the AB-Club. The Brussels-Leuven project then promptly shifted to a higher gear. Hun debut single ‘Try Humanity’ received quite a remix dress-down by American dubstepper Starkey and was converted into a rave-anthem by influential Brit and wonky-producer Zomby. In any case, 2010 also promises the release of debut album ‘Run Into The Propeller’, on which the gents shoot like schizophrenic freaks from electro to funk and from house via industrial to ghetto-tech and IDM.
