Colombian party music, Brussels style!
The slogan comes from De Standaard, at the time the CD 'Pelao' was released, in 2011. La Chiva Gantiva also gave a free Jazz Marathon concert in the AB for a rather full and particularly sultry main hall. Or what is known as: 'een zottekot', 'het dak er af', 'Colombiaanse feestmuziek à la Bruxelloise.'
La Chiva Gantiva is that crazy but also tight act built around Natalia Gantiva and fierce frontman Rafael Espinel. Of Colombian origin but at home in Brussels. The band also contains a Vietnamese, a Breton, a Walloon and even a Fleming.
‘Pelao’ was produced by Richard Blair, who you hopefully already know as Sidestepper. The witty CD is out on Belgium’s Crammed label.
La Chiva Gantiva has been on the road since 2010, visiting festivals here (Couleur Café 2010 & 2012!), plus France, Portugal, The Netherlands, Germany, Great-Britain, Colombia and Canada.
Returning 'home' now for an exclusive ABClub. Where they’ll certainly get you onto the champeta, chirimia and mapalé with their extra tambore, alegre, llamador and maracones!
