Kora is a funky discovery from New Zealand. The fivesome brims with Maori blood and four of the musicians are brothers of (indeed) the Kora family. Their first, untitled and extremely playfully packaged CD has already scored 'down under'. But its their live concerts are especially steamy events apparently. In England they'll be touring at Womad and Shepherd's Bush Empire level. For those who like their dub, funk, break-beat and blues-rock tight and exciting, or for those who kick on Meshuggah, Steel Pulse, Faith No More, The Cat Empire, Bad Brains, Living Colour, John Butler Trio... Kora is clearly at home amongst the sort of acts 'that keep the mojo flowing'.
Support act will be the impressive and enjoyable Maximus (this time as a trio.) The debut album will be out in mid October and to record it Maximus went to Lund in Sweden, to work with the world famous Agurk Players. Maximus is the musical alias of Yannick Uyttenhove and you most likely know this impressive bassist from Novastar, Flip Kowlier, Ultrasonic, Garland Jeffreys… Hopefully too from witty singles 'Pornstar Tity' (about such a person) and 'Mindy' (about and obese lesbian pussycat).
