HIP-HOP 50
A delightful fusion of jazz, R&B, hip-hop and electronic music
Pianist and producer Kiefer (aka Kiefer Shackelford) grew up in San Diego where he was immersed in jazz at a young age by his father and later experimented with hip-hop-inspired beats in high school. Thanks daddy, because by now Kiefer is a major figure in LA's music scene.
Hard beats, complex jazz voicings and sentimental melodies formed the basis for his debut album 'Kickinit Alone', released on Leaving Records in 2017. Soon, Kiefer signed with Stones Throw and released two LPs: Happysad (2018) and When There's Love Around (2021).
The new album 'It's Ok, B U' reflects his journey towards self-acceptance - from panic to lust and self-doubt to an optimistic outlook on life and a strong self-awareness. Besides his own work, he has produced, played and written with artists like Drake and Anderson .Paak, for which he won a GRAMMY Award. He has also collaborated with big names like Carrtoons and Theo Croker.
At the core, Kiefer is both emotional and optimistic, making his songs appeal to a broad spectrum of emotions. But in the end, they are always about a sense of encouragement, strength and gratitude, reminding listeners through his music that "this is a beautiful life".
Life is too beautiful and short - buy the damn concert tickets!
