Focus Knack after Sfinks: 'Denk Bombino en Tinariwen, of een Desert Session van Josh Homme met wijlen Ali Farka Touré.'
Le Soir regarding Couleur Café: '...une partition qui, entre oud et guitares électriques très rocks, n’est pas sans rappeler les expérimentations de Brian Jones ou de Robert Plant.'
Kel Assouf is that unstoppable band encompassing frontman Anana Harouna, closely associated with trailblazers Tinariwen.
But there is more: Toulou Kiki as singer (and leading role in the never highly enough praised film Timbuktu by A. Sissako.)
The Belgian-North West African band headed into the studio with Tunisian Sofyann Ben Youssef this time and that has clearly resulted in a more adventurous sound on 2nd CD Tikounen (label IglooMondo.)
Once again with phrases like: Kel Assouf are 'those who bathe in nostalgia' and Tikounen stands for ‘amazement, astonishment even.' This is still a story of oppression, discrimination and rebellion across all borders, between the desert and the urban jungle. That’s where the dancefloor also awaits you (in the ABBox.)
