Kartasan is the new band established around Jan Vandecasteele, singer, pianist, composer. Kartasan guarantees infectious pop/rock with a twist, jazz and Latin influences are keenly used, songs that you've always known, but never before heard. Jan possesses a unmistakable voice and an impressive band, assisted live by The Killer Horns.
In the summer of 2007, Jan took a sabbatical year in order to realise his dream of writing a fully-fledged album. He recorded a demo in Ghent together with Barber Marquey, which he then played to the brothers Frederik (guitar) and Simon (drums) Segers and to Matthias Debusschere (electric- and double bass) with all of whom it clicked right away. So that's how the foundations were laid for the band Kartasan.
Meanwhile, the repertoire has been refined and re-arranged by Jan and Frederik and they've already played a series of try-out concerts (at the likes of our Broodje Brussel), where the audience was pleasantly surprised by the maturity of this young band. Even without radio airplay the audience grew steadily with every concert.
In the summer of 2008 the band started recording for the debut album "Another Profile" in Studio On The Moon in Drongen, together with an impressive cast of pedigree musicians including the likes of The Killer Horns with Marc De Maeseneer, Yves Fernandez and Frederik Heirman, the string ensemble with Paul Klinck, Jeroen Baert, Erwin Fourbert and Seraphine Stragier + double bass, hammond, banjo, percussion. The musicians have all worked together on this prestigious CD with an extreme amount of inspiration. Werner Pensaert was sold right away and mixed the album in studio Audioworkx in Nederland.
