Authentic Dutch-language bluesman launches second album
For singer Kaai Man, the River Scheldt is like the Mississippi; for him, the lost souls of the Flemish Polders are not inferior to those of the American swamps. Kaai Man sings about harbours and water, about life, love, hope, death and faith, with a voice that defies and conquers the seven seas. A voice that lets itself be propelled by the deceptively simple chords that flow from Kaai Man’s acoustic guitar, ones that sound like a train from times long past, coming from a place far from here. And yet, at the same time, Kaai Man feels like home.
Behind Kaai Man are the Oeverlozen. Schooled by life, they speak his language, they amplify and expand his words, they are hushed when you should listen. Making use of old recipes mixed with today’s poisons, their arrangements bring blues, cabaret and tearjerker to life in an authentic way.
Late last year, Kaai Man went into the studio together with the Oeverlozen to record a new album that will be out in April. You can already listen to the first single from it.
