It's All Okay, vaporeuse Aussie pop chanteuse
Australia’s Julia Stone, also known from Angus & Julia Stone: 'Big Jet Plane' (a hit about the entire planet) and a sold-out AB in December 2010 (concert of the year according to the AB website!?)
Now touring without her brother, via California, New York and France (where she also does the occasional duet with Benjamin Biolay!?)
Taking it on by herself? Her latest, second solo-CD is called 'By The Horns', out here via EMI. Not always cheerful songs but, as ever, with that tender, trembling voice. Like in that reassuring hit 'It's All Okay'. Or in that wonderfully personal cover of 'Bloodbuzz Ohio' (yep, the one you know from The National.)
So it’s that voice that is described as 'vaporeuse' by the French Les Inrocks: 'de sa voix vaporeuse elle déroule une dizaine de chansons au spleen pop... le coeur de cette Stone n'est pas de pierre.'
De Standaard writes of 'dromerige folkpop met veel langgerekte zoemtonen en ijle stemmen... het grote appeal is haar onthaastende waarde.'
We also read in that article that Julia follows yoga and meditation techniques to learn how to keep her concentration. 'As it’s pretty tricky to remember your lyrics when you see an attractive guy at the bar and start dreaming about him while you’re singing.'
Linee up:
Drummer Ray Rizzo
Guitarist Nick Batterham
Pianist Ross Eirwn
Bassist Josh Kaufman
Support-act will be the very intriguing Brit Paul Thomas Saunders. Apparently he already has three EPs to his name: ‘Four Songs In Twilight’, ‘Lilac & Wisteria’ and ‘Descartes Highlands’. According to the insider from The Guardian, they're to be situated between Jeff Buckley and Radiohead!
