Hypnotising, dark avant-folk with lute
Admittance is free of charge according to the principle of ‘first come, first served.’
Brooklyn-resident Dutch composer/lute player Jozef Van Wissem wants to pull the baroque and renaissance lute out the academic environment and present it to a broader audience on contemporary stages. With his minimalistic avant-folk, he is more often to be found in rock and underground clubs than in classical venues. With repetitive patterns that evolve into melodious labyrinths and trance-like compositions.
He tours Europe and the US as avant-garde composer (often for film but also for the likes of Hans Holbein's The Ambassadors) and baroque lute player. He doesn’t do ‘easy listening’, his music hypnotizes, challenges and confronts. He has played more than a thousand concerts worldwide, including at ATP (All Tomorrow's Parties) and Primavera Sound Barcelona. A new album will also be released two days prior to his show at AB Salon: ‘Nobody Living Can Ever Make Me Turn Back’ on Consouling Sounds.
