33 1/3 CLASSIC ALBUM LISTENING SESSION
Joy Division – Unknown Pleasures, FACT10, Factory Records, 1979, 39min24sec
Please note: this is NOT a concert but a listening session
One of the most influential albums of the last 40 years begins with the words ‘I’ve been waiting for a guide to come and take me by the hand’.
Peter Saville's iconic, minimalistic cover; Steven Morris' hollow, gothic drum sound; Bernard Albrecht's harrowing guitar, Peter Hook's pumping basslines, Marting Hannet's unique, innovative production and Ian Curtis' highly personal, tormented lyrics... and that voice of course, that voice!
To say that Joy Division's debut album was something more than the sum of its parts would be an understatement. It's an album that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go, right from the very first listen. You have been warned.
With the concert by Interpol frontman Paul Banks, we finally get the ideal opportunity to dedicate a Classic Album Listening Session to ‘Unknown Pleasures’ .
The session will be introduced, in its own unique manner, (in Dutch) by Stijn Meuris, singer, journalist, man with a cause, Joy Division fan and interim-singer of Dead Souls (the best JD cover band ever).
One of the most influential albums of the past 40 years ends with the words ‘We were strangers for way too long, for way too long.’
