Inspiring bluesrock veteran, 80th anniversary tour
John Mayall turns 80!
Almost a century, of which the majority was spent as ground-breaking blues pioneer - alias leader of The Bluesbreakers.
Since the mid-sixties of last century, (then still British) John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers were a true blues institution/pop-rock lab. With surprising hits even, like Looking Back, Congo Square and the unbelievably indestructible Room To Move.
Always with the very well-versed singer-guitarist-keyboard-harmonica player John Mayall as central figure, but his band was also a continuous coming and going of greats like Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Mick Taylor.... Fine folk that later found their illustrious ways into Cream, Fleetwood Mac and other Rolling Stones.
Relocated to California in the meantime, with the current line-up containing Rocky Athas (guitar), Greg Rzab (bass) and Jay Davenport (drums). It's also from 2008 ago that this hyper jaunty octogenarian again appeared in a very full AB. There's clearly no age or colour limit to making the best blues. Something to be celebrated!
