Jessica Lea Mayfield, only 19, recorded a demo in her bedroom at the age of 15 and then had it distributed in 100 copies. One of those landed in the hands of Black Keys guitarist Dan Auerbach and, after meeting, Jessica spent 2 years camping on and off in Auerbach’s studio in Akron, Ohio for her debut ‘With Blasphemy, So Heartfelt’. Meanwhile the album has been released worldwide and the praise is still streaming in:
‘I think she’s dark and moody in a mysterious way, not unlike Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’. (Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys)
‘Mayfield’s songs cut with the kind of raw-boned emotion familiar to fans of Cat Power’. (Mojo ****)
‘A female companion piece to Bon Iver’s ‘For Emma, Forever Ago’, the album is an extraordinary debut from an extraordinary artist’. (Times Culture)
Soon to tour America with kindred spirit Ray Lamontagne, but now here with us in the cosy ABClub.
Elvis Perkins in Dearland, that's how Mr. Perkins (yup, son of Anthony, the actor from the film ‘Psycho’) is to be addressed on stage. This folky singer-songwriter has already appeared on our stage twice while carrying his breathtaking debut ‘Ash Wednesday’. ‘Elvis Perkins In Dearland’, that's the title of the soon to be released successor. Once again a fine collection of folk-pop songs that tack between Dylan and Van Morrison.
The evening will be kicked off by pride of our fatherland: Krakow. They too have already enriched our stage on countless occasions with their alt-slowcore. As privileged fans, we heard recently a number of new songs from ‘Far Away Look’, which is to be released in March. On it, the fivesome from Limburg gives a good shot in the direction of country and traditional americana. So as point of reference, no longer think of bands like Low but rather Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and the like. Breathtaking…
