tape manipulations & cello concert + docu screening
Sound in Motion/Oorstof & AB will continue to work together this year too. After the successful visits by Tom Carter (Charalambides), Ameel Brecht, Alan Licht & Tetuzi Akiyama and Urpf Lanze, tape manipulator Jérôme Noetinger and cellist Aude Romary now take us along on an exceptional electro-acoustic trip. To top it all off, with the screening of ‘Tony Conrad: Completely In The Present’, you can view an exceptional portrait of the American avant-garde video and experimental filmmaker, musician, composer, teacher and writer who passed away in 2016.
Jérôme Noetinger & Aude Romary - Concert
Jérôme Noetinger is one of the driving forces in the French experimental music scene. He is a member of Cellule D’Intervention Metamkine (a group that manipulates image and sound via 16 mm projectors), he asserts himself both solo and in collaborations (Lionel Marchetti, Michel Chion, Kevin Drumm ...) with field recordings, feedback & tape recorders, he writes for French magazine Revue et corrigée and he manages Metamkine (a record label and international distributor of experimental music). He has been working with experimental French cellist Aude Romary since 2014, a collaboration that was documented on the brilliant CD Discordes (Centre Culturel André Malraux, 2017). Cello, tape recorders, microphones & loudspeakers are the musical weapons of choice with which Noetinger and Romary allow a surprising electro-acoustic world of sound to bloom.
Tony Conrad: Completely in the Present - Screening (US - 2016 - 96’)
Tony Conrad: Completely in the Present is a documentary by director Tyler Hubby – see too: The Devil and Daniel Johnston – that grants us an exceptional insight into the life and work of the influential filmmaker, musician, artist and teacher Tony Conrad.
Conrad’s films and compositions have been a source of fascination for many an artist and musician since the early sixties. He played on and recorded the soundtack of Jack Smiths legendary film Flaming Creatures, turned the film world upside down with The Flicker (a film featuring only black and white film frames), (together with La Monte Young and John Cale) he was there at the birth of what would later become the Velvet Underground, he amazed the world with ultimate drones and minimal compositions, he toured with Sonic Youth and worked with Jim O’Rourke (which resulted in a new generation being able to discover his work), and with his interdisciplinary repertoire (that stretches over more than fifty years) he has inspired diverse generations of artists and musicians.
