Beck, Jeff Beck! From the same generation as Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Peter Green, John Mayall... But then the most idiosyncratic one from that draft of British star-guitarists. Has a past with The Yardbirds, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Jan Hammer, Beck Bogert & Appice... But recently also appearing at the side of Morrissey, Roger Waters, Joss Stone, Imelda May... Above all, an electric guitarist who is continually searching and wants to explore every possibility of his instrument and his band. Or as he says himself on his site: 'I play the way I do because it allows me to come up with the sickest sounds possible. That's the point now, isn't it?' In any event, the result is a fantastic fusion of blues and jazz and rock!
Also, we're expecting Jeff Beck in the company of none less than Rhonda Smith (bass, for the likes of Prince), Narada Michael Walden (drums, for the likes of Mahavishnu Orchestra) and Jason Rebello (keyboard, for the likes of Wayne Shorter).
You can expect cleverly varied material such as his versions of the 'Bolero' or 'Superstition' or 'The Peter Gunn Theme' or his own phenomenal 'Come Dancing', but also expect biting beauty à la 'Amazing Grace' or 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow', up to and including 'A Day In The Life' by The Beatles - you heard right - but now worth a Grammy for Best Instrumental Track!
The new 'Hammerhead' CD was just recently released via Warner. Jeff Beck was recently included in the illustrious Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame too.
Not yet convinced? Recommended for fans of Lonnie Mack, Roy Buchanan, Les Paul, Chet Atkins, Stevie Ray Vaughan... (and the Peer BRBFestival!).
