Rule-breaking, Grammy-winning guitar hero!
Beck, Jeff Beck! In a sold-out AB back ,in October 2010. Now returning with a new CD obviously, but especially with his idiosyncratic, very sharp and infallible guitar playing.
In the band this time: Rhonda Smith on bass, Lizzie Ball violin, Jonathan Joseph drums and Nicolas Meier extra guitar.
Jeff Beck will always be a generation-mate of the likes of Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Peter Green, John Mayall... But then the most whimsical of that draft of British star-guitarists. With a past in The Yardbirds, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Jan Hammer, Beck Bogert & Appice... But recently also at the side of Morrissey, Roger Waters, Joss Stone, Imelda May... even Brian Wilson!
Above all, an electric guitarist who is continually searching and wants to explore all the possibilities of his instrument and his band. Or, as he declares on his site: 'I play the way I do because it allows me to come up with the sickest sounds possible. That's the point now, isn't it?' The result is an entirely fantastic fusion of blues and jazz and rock!
Expect wittily varied material again, like his versions of the Bolero or Superstition or The Peter Gunn Theme or hopefully his own phenomenal Come Dancing again too, but there's also the discerning beauty à la Amazing Grace or Somewhere Over The Rainbow, up to and including A Day In The Life – by The Beatles, that's right, but here it was good for a Grammy as best instrumental track!
