A more than exquisite jazz double-bill with none less than the Jef Neve Trio and also the now eminent duo José James & Jef Neve. Neve will be present with a new CD, and José James and Neve will perform their album ‘For All We Know’, an album full of standards. Could your evening possibly sound more musically sublime?
8:00 pm José James & Jef Neve: ‘For All We Know’
Quiet splendour. That's what is to be heard on ‘For All We Know’, recently released via legendary jazz-label Impulse. A fine collaboration between pianist Jef Neve and the warm velvety voice of José James, on which they reinterpret a series of standards. From ‘Lush Life’, ‘Body And Soul’ to ‘Autumn in New York’ to ‘Embraceable You’. In a manner that is again moving but, above all, unadulterated and touches upon the essence of things. José James & Jef Neve already impressed in the AB during the ultimate John Coltrane project ‘Facing East: the Music of John Coltrane’. This time they will be displaying their most intimate side.
9:30 pm Jef Neve Trio - CD Release
It has now become tradition: when Jef Neve Trio release a new CD, the première takes place in the AB. The Jef Neve Trio are onto their fifth CD, released a good two years now after the strongly acclaimed ‘Soul In A Picture’. Quite a lot has happened for Jef Neve over those two years. He ‘ran’ the programme ‘Neve’ on Klara, wrote the soundtrack for box-office hit ‘De Helaasheid der Dingen’, Jamie Cullum even played Neve in his programme on BBC2 and, lastly, Jef also worked intensely with José James. What's more, he changed the composition of his trio by replacing Piet Verbist with contra-bassist Ruben Samama living in New York… We're curious to see the result!
Line up:
Jef Neve: piano
Teun Verbruggen: drums
Ruben Samama: double bass
