Woody Guthrie (1912-1967) is one of the most important folk singers in the history of American music. He is considered to be the godfather of both Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. His first recordings were made in New York under the watchful eye of Alan Lomax. Guthrie was very socially involved and wrote more than a thousand songs, also for very young children.
The clear translations by Frank Vander linden (De Mens), the cheerful arrangements by Jan De Smet (De Nieuwe Snaar: accordion, guitar, dobro, banjo, ukulele, mouth organ…), and the swinging double bass of Arne Van Dongen (from the likes of: Het Muziek Lod) make this one irresistable show.
‘Woody finds a clear play-situation for each song, grows along the way and immediately charms the audience of children. Good and simple. But simply good.’ (De Standaard)
‘Woody was a good idea as it does three things all in one go: provides children with an unforgettable afternoon, lets them make acquaintance with the best that the US has to offer – namely its music tradition – and offers them an essential, infectious children's production.’ (De Morgen)
