Korea: shock post rock metal-folk!
After two years, now finally returning with new CD 'A Hermitage', on the Bella Union label (here via Pias), and with as stable core: Ilwoo Lee, Bomi Kim and Eun Youg Sim.
Back in the ABClub, where the following is still applicable:
Jambinai makes fantastic noise. From South Korea, and their sound varies between meditative world-ambient and apocalyptic post-rock or metal-folk.
Which just goes to show: difficult to describe, but a volcano live!
Our man saw Jambinai at work for the first time at Womex, that world-music fair, and mentioned at the time: 'Klaar voor een knal van een verrassing? Jambinai uit Zuid Korea heeft een metal attitude maar tevens van die ratelende traditionele instrumenten en die combinatie gaf vaak post-rock apocalyptische vonken.'
You’re already familiar with drums, keyboards and guitars? Then make the acquaintance of the haegum, piri or geomungo, as Jambinai uncompromisingly mixes those Korean instruments with ‘our’ pop-rock instrumentarium (and sometimes a xylophone?)
'Jambinai inhabit the dark borderlands where tradition meets the modern world.'
