Release show coming of age album: ‘.....’
Le nouveau Jack Vamp & The Castle of Creep est arrivé and you can take that literally, because Angels – the advance single from the soon-to-be-released debut album – is quite different to what Arthur Boussiron previously had us hear. During their victory tour of De Nieuwe Lichting the band still dealt in songs with an indie-surfrock signature. After that, Angels sounds like an audacious but successful about-face. The song is reminiscent of tunes from the ‘80s radio program Funky Town: it has an infectious nu-soul sound, with a groove that gets straight to your hips and nods to Marvin Gaye, Flying Lotus and Funkadelic. That bodes well for the debut album they’re coming to present in the AB Club.
