Isobel Campbell (ex-Belle & Sebastian) and our favourite Mark Lanegan, it's a marriage made in heaven. Or rather: the soft, husky voice of Isobel meets the raw, deep and scratchy voice of Lanegan. Or also: the contemporary Nancy Sinatra meets Lee Hazlewood. Following on from two classy van albums – ‘Ballad of the Broken Seas’ and ‘Sunday At Devil Dirt’ – their third opus will be released this summer: ‘Hawk’. This third CD situates itself on the musical borders of alt-country, folk, blues and jazz too, whereby - aside from Lanegan - kindred spirit Willy Mason now also plays a role. In order to celebrate the release of ‘Hawk’, this duo will be visiting only 7 European cities, among which the AB (just call it: Lanegan’s regularly frequented homebase). You're still undecided? Then just read the reviews of their latest album ‘Sunday At Devil Dirt’:
"The chemistry between the two is riveting… Campbell’s songs are simple, direct, gorgeous." And also: "*****" (Sunday Times) "A modern-day Nancy and Lee… It is no exaggeration to say that, at their best, the songs on ‘Sunday at Devil Dirt’ sound like instant standards." And: "****" (The Times) "Crackles with sexy chemistry… Lanegan turns in some career-best performances… Way rootsier than Nancy and Lee, these two really hit the spot." (MOJO)
Support act will be American singer-songwriter Willy Mason. That's no careless choice either, as Willy Mason is also to be heard as guest vocalist for two tracks on Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan's latest album 'Hawk'.
