Linda Perhacs. Vashti Bunyan. Karen Dalton. They have one thing in common: they all released one or more folk albums in the seventies, of which the musical importance only became clear around the turn of the century. Ambassadors like Nick Cave stood up for the white Billie Holiday (Karen Dalton) and new weird folkie Devendra Banhart shouted out his love and appreciation of Vashti Bunyan and Linda Perhacs to anyone who wanted to hear it.

The latter – born in California as Linda Jeanne Arnold – released the stunning psychedelic folk album ‘Parallelograms’ in 1970. Unfortunately: the album was flagrantly ignored by the outside world and Linda Perhacs threw herself into her other pursuit: maintaining a dental practise in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles.

Right up until the moment that her debut (and only album to date) was re-released at the end of last century and a new generation of music-lover musicians discovered her. Devendra Banhart invited her to appear on his album ‘Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon’ (’07) and Daft Punk used one of her songs (‘If You Were My Man’) in their film ‘Electroma’ (’06).

That renewed attention now brings Linda Perhacs to Belgium for the first time, 43 years after her now acclaimed debut. With a bit of luck, you might already hear a number of her new songs on this evening. That album ’The Soul Of All Natural Things’ is due to be released in 2014, you will also be able to hear Julia Holter and Devendra Banhart on it.

Linda Perhacs will be interviewed at Huis 23 before the concert by Kurt Overbergh, Artistic Director of AB.
