Ezra Collective’s trumpet player mixes fuji and Afrobeats with jazz and hip-hop
Ife Ogunjobi is a London-based, Grammy Award-winning trumpet player, composer and producer of Nigerian descent. His debut EP Stay True (2023) shows how he remains true to his roots and upbringing. Ogunjobi combines fuji and Afrobeats influences from his Nigerian heritage with jazz and hip-hop elements that coloured his youth in London.
According to Ogunjobi, we should be more like children: fearless, carefree and confident in who we are. His latest EP Tell Them, I’m Here, with its deliciously sweet and deep soul jazz, reflects his desire to achieve that state and continue to create without hesitation, intellectual analysis or boundaries.
The trumpet player’s style is so versatile that he can switch from a spiritual jazz solo to a dancefloor-filling Afrobeat party in the blink of an eye. This has led to his involvement in studio collaborations with many different artists, such as Wizkid on his album More Love, Less Ego and Burna Boy on I Told Them – which reached number one in the United Kingdom.
Tell your friends, it's gonna be a big party!
