Ultra-hip music blog Stereogum already tipped Icona Pop as one of their ’40 Best New Bands’ in 2012, together with fine folks like Haim, Jessie Ware, Azealia Banks, Savages and AlunaGeorge (women rule pop-land in 2013!). And in homeland Sweden these two – pardon my Swedish – kåt tjejers have been ‘the queens of fun-pop’ for a while now.
Yet the rest of the world only fell for them after hearing fine phrases like “I threw your shit into a bag and pushed it down the stairs” or “I crashed my car into a bridge, I don’t care!” from the fabulous Eurotrash-hit ‘I Love It’ (penned by Charli XCX).
On their self-titled debut, available here via Warner Music, they spiced their electro, pop and house-mix with a high ‘I don’t give a f***'-factor. And in the lyrics of new single ‘Girlfriend’ they openly filched from the late Tupac Shakur (‘Me And My Girlfriend’).
