ƚBM [INSPIRED BY BLACK METAL]
ƚBM focuses on the influence of black metal anno 2014 and is a response to the current prevalence of the genre. Not coincidentally 30 years after the establishment of legendary Norwegian black metal band Mayhem. Nor coincidentally 20 years after the release of their debut ‘De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas’ - one of the most influential black metal albums ever.
BOHREN & DER CLUB OF GORE (d)
The name hails from their adoration of the now long disbanded Dutch instrumental noise/hardcore group Gore. Their musical influences are gained from black metal, Black Sabbath, Twin Peaks and jazz. Bohren also prefers to describe their music as as ‘horror jazz’, although the black metal vibe is inevitably – if intangibly – present.
AB isn't the only fan (they already played here in ’05 and in ‘08), there's also Mike Patton who has released every Bohren album (since his classic ‘Black Earth’) on his own Ipecac label. Their latest and 8th album bears the name ‘Piano Nights’ and according to Pichtfork it sounds “the same as their seventh, sixth, fifth, fourth, third, second, and first. The mood is solemn, the tempos are slow, and each note carries within it the suggestion that it might be the band’s last.” Is that bad? Not at all! Because “it’s a show of commitment to an idea so elegant in its original design that changing it would constitute betrayal.”
